Is this still called embroidery?

Hi,
What kind of art is this? Do you recognize the building? Would this be considered Persian? I think it’s vintage in age.

Any help with anything on this is very much appreciated

 

It's Bengali or Indian framed in Bengal. Best guess.

 

It does look like embroidery. The costumes are consistent with Bangladesh, as stated on the label on the back. The building is probably a mosque. East Pakistan became Bangladesh in 1971, so it was made after 1971.

Bangladesh is former East Bengal and has a Bengali majority population, hence evelyb's mention of Bengal (I think).

 

They're wearing Muslim style clothes and there's a mosque in the background. And the framer's address on the back says Bangladesh. The former East Pakistan has a Muslim majority or did, so....

 

Still does. It did as East Bengal (after introduction of Islam centuries ago), after the Partition as East Pakistan, and now as Bangladesh.
There are various styles of dress on the embroidery btw.

 

Not surprising, since the place has been a crossroads for a long time.
