    Hi
I'm wondering whether anyone may be able to shed any light on this ring. It is stamped on the outside of the band but I can't make out what the mark reads. The stone may be amber and the origin is most likely Poland. When you hold the ring up to the light you can almost see through it.
    Thanks 20201029_185558.jpg 20201029_185615.jpg 20201029_185637.jpg 20201029_185656.jpg 20201029_185726.jpg

It looks like amber to me, and if it is indeed from Poland, Baltic amber is very likely.
Is it warm to the touch, compared to other stones?

You do realise this is where you have to get that most important of jewellery sleuthing gadgets: the amazing UV flashlight!:jawdrop::hilarious:
Most amber fluoresces very clearly under UV light.;)

Yes, it does feel warmer to the touch than other stones. The colour is so rich, it's amazing.
UV flashlight - please tell me more.

    I'd say that's a yes to amber.
    That's why I love amber.:)
It is one of the ways of testing for amber, since amber generally fluoresces under UV light. You need to shine it on the stone in a darkish place. I usually hold it under my desk, but some forumites go into a dark closet, hence the dark closet jokes on the forum.:D

I bought a very cheap one on Ebay. As aj rightly says, really useful. The glow is a blue veil with amber, rather than a point of light.

Fluorescence colours can vary according to the colours of the amber.
From my notes, info gathered from various sites and books:
None to yellowish green to orangey-yellow. Also may fluoresce white, yellow, green or blue.

You inspired me to test my amber. I have one of those small UV lights. My amber glowed a yellowish lime green.

Oh wonderful, Janette.:) Yellowish lime green is certainly possible, given the colour range. I'll add it to my list.
(I have an amber cabochon that is vomit-coloured under UV )

Be careful. It's Halloween. No telling what you may see in your closet.

Just want to share my first closet experience with you. My UV torch arrived today and I was straight into the closet. It took me a while to get coordinated ;) Hilarious. This is my first closet pic:wideyed::wideyed::wideyed:

Glad you had fun, that is exactly why we send people to the closet.:hilarious: Never mind the stone.;)

I'm with obb, no amber. I expect cognac amber to fluoresce yellow, with a pinkish highlight with some blue.:wacky: Also that very opaque look of the fluorescence and the structure you see are not typical for amber fluorescence.
This kind of green fluorescence is seen on some Indian brown carnelians, so my vote is for carnelian.:)

I really wanted it to be amber but it doesn't really matter because I actually love this ring. I was instantly taken with the richness of colour
I'm determined to find some amber though so I can see the blue glow in my closet :watching:
    Thanks for your responses.
