Is this vase made from milk glass?

I bought this pink jug/vase this morning having noticed it had the characteristic of translucence. The handle is white glass.

Having got it home and played shadows with it, I was not so sure.

From top to bottom the translucence is graded. At the top i can clear see my finger; but as it moves lower the opacity increases until around 2cm from the bottom it has all but disappeared.

I hope this shows up in the photograph.

Is it milk glass? If it is, is this characteristic common? Photographs I have seen in the Internet have all shown up as uniform colour, and without any intensification.

    Thanks for your help?

It goes purple, even the white glass handle.

It shows no difference in the scale of purple intensity throughout the jug. From the milky-pink to the deep pink the colour purple is the same.

Looing again at the jug, in some light it is pink, in other light it is peach. There ate signs of it having been moulded or of a pontil mark, although the base ripple finish (see photo).

I have a white milk glass eggcup that turns to purple under UV.

So what do I have? An opaline jug with a milk glass handle?

I always fear it is the reflection of the UV that is purple.

UV photo. Is it reflection or glowing? Light is on the side to reduce reflection. Jug UV.JPG

FWIW I think both the handle and jug are opaline.
