Went OTT at the auction yesterday and ended up with 40 jugs, mainly Victorian but a few earlier. Now have less money but more satisfaction! Included 4 Glamorgan Pottery jugs, 3 graduated 1832 Reform Act and this one picked up from a fellow buyer after the auction.

Once again, I am captivated by a thread title and ultimately disappointed.......

My heart breaks to cause so much misery :bigtears:

Then we spot another reason to be cheerful. Prob Clyde Pottery, 1862

I KNEW Mansons (or some like soul) would rise to the bait.

As a female, I felt it unseemly for me to do so...

    :)

Clever replacement handle on that first.

Looks like the mark on the bottom of the second is the same as the P-of-W mark on the side - only the lettering changed.

Never having been one to allow gender specifics to interfere, I have never allowed even an obvious opening to go unused

I'm ok if you want to take your shot at such a....title. ;)

I state it this way, for those who have a clue of what I mean, and so fair warning. If a brass ring is offered me, I will take it for that carousel ride may end before I come around to the dispenser again.. ;)

Ah well, as Godden says, every pitcher tells a story.

As for that usage, it ranks third over here after "ears"

On a clean note, pitchers, ewers, jugs and and such have always held a fascination for me. I think it has something to do with the evolution of function into form. Everything from amphora to the brutally tortured bits of Christoffel, I can stand stare at things such as these for hours. And no matter how low the value, how bad the design, I have always had a bit of a struggle parting with one......................And yours, with the replacement handle would never see the light of day again once it had passed into my possession..............

    I get that!
I admire them but don't really want them as a collection though.
If I stumbled upon a naval related one I would buy it.
Somewhere, in the depths of my storage rented out to Steven for the last shot in Raiders, ;) is a simple, probably crew's or Captain's one, from a long gone or absorbed steamship line on the west coast of the USA. Should I come across it I will take a photo for y'all. :)

Oh good grief, do you mean that the really old "camp" song I learned at summer camp when I was nine years old had "another" meaning (obviously unbeknownst to me at the time and for many, many decades thereafter)?

"Do your ears hang low, do they wobble to and fro, can you tie them in a knot, can you tie them in a bow, can you throw them over your shoulder like a Continental soldier, do you ears hang low?" :hilarious:
