Japanese katana?

    I'd love to translate it for you.... Can you please post a better photo though? It's very hard to see the characters clearly enough as it transitions from highly lit to being in shadow.

    Perhaps take a few closer up photos of just a few of the characters at a time instead of trying to get them all in one photo.

    I would say it is not a Katana, though it could be the angle of the photo, it appears too short for that sword. It looks more like the smaller sword/dagger Tanto.

    Also, the end of the blade seems very rounded and not at all to a sharp point as most Japanese sword sets commonly are. Is the end you are showing the blade end, or the tang which usually disappears inside the handle grip?

    Please show a picture of the full sword from end to end as well. Are there other parts for this you have such as the Saya (Japanese term for Scabbard) or other swords which accompanied this one?

  9. Agreed it looks like a tang hole, and usually the signature is on the tang.
