Featured Japanese painting

    Good evening peoples. Scorching (In the UK). Picked up this cute little boy today :rolleyes:

    The label says its a genuine 19th century painting. Google translate identifies the text as saying 'send porridge'. How bizarre.

    It is a Chinese pith painting imo, and yes, 19th century. Nice.

    Okay thanks. The frame looks like it might be 50 years old itself. The parchment is a bit screwed up in places. Tempted to take it out and flatten it under a book but probably best off leaving it. My restorations often end in disaster.

    Sounds like a screwy translation. Transporting rice maybe?

    Looks more like a 19th century Shanghai street vendor to my eyes,but i'm no expert.

    The Chinese frequently eat a rice porridge called congee so could be both.
