Picked this bottle up at an estate sale. Has the Olympic rings and I think Japanese writing and a downhill skier. Could this mabe be from the 1940 Olympics? Has a old cork stopper.

This gets confusing - the 1940 Olympics were supposed to be Summer Games and at one point were scheduled for Tokyo, but thanks to what became WWII the Games were never held. Not sure how downhill skiing would figure into summer sports. Maybe it was a strictly Japanese team or fan souvenir from a different year?

Japan was also to be the site of the 1940 Winter Olympics. I think yours may be a promotional piece. I once found a promotional handkerchief for one of the never-to-happen 1940 Japan Olympics (but don't remember if it was winter or summer.) Of course, you'll know for sure when a Japanese speaker comes along to translate.

I should add that yours is a traditional Japanese gourd-shaped saki bottle.

In Sapporo there is a place called the magic snack bar Ropossa/Lopossa, which goes by ロポッサ.

ロポッサ is are the characters for Sapporo in reverse order サッポロ = Sapporo

At this place, the diners are entertained with magic tricks.

Couch Potato, so this came from Sapporo, a snack bar? Could they have given away promo items for the Olympics?

I'm not sure really, you could always ask them.
