Diameter: ~100mm (~3 15/16"); Height: ~38mm (~1 1/2"); Weight: 116 grams (3.73 ozt). Included (pics soon) are original tomobako an' fabric wrapper with maker's seal.
It is ~50 years old, made in ~1971 by the 5th (or 6th) Takagi Jirobei in Kyoto.
The Hachisuka clan are descendants of Emperor Seiwa, (reigned 850-881).
I've been looking for this cup in my hoard for maybe 3 years; found it yesterday.
    Thanks for lookin'!

Yes, Komo...I confess that it is. A lifetime of fondness for brewed refreshment, with nary a thought to meaningful exercise, will do that to a fella. I remain devoted...an' completely without a shred of shame.

Well, yes...however, in order to maintain that gut one must needs generously sufficient quantities of the beverage under discussion (beer, rather than Sake).
This cup may have a manageable capacity of ~3 oz (~90ml), but that amount would prove a bit challenging to quaff without wearing some spillage. Pint glasses are sufficiently ballasted, even when quite filled, to allow consumption without saturating apparel an' adjacent surfaces. A fella has to consider appearances, y'know?

When I was a child, Uncle Leonard would send packages with unusual kid stuff from Nagoya. Might as well have been from the moon, as far as 'foreign' to us. First thing we noticed was an aroma, which we thought came from the 'Balsa wood' boxes which were in fact Kiri wood (Paulownia). Those amazing containers were my first exposure to the simplicity an' precision of Japanese craft, an' tho' I couldn't have articulated that impression, I'm still very well aware of its formative impact on my appreciation for all manner of Japanese art an' artifacts. Their resonance with simplicity in most things, their attention to the smallest detail, an' precision in execution make every item, utilitarian or decorative, a work of high art. I'm still so attracted to the Kiri tomobako that I've accumulated several dozen of them, of various sizes an' ages. The kids will probably use em' for kindling when I'm gone...so be it.

Before the War the well-meaning Christian Missionaries in China & India imparted the new religion and in trade got no small amount of ancient goodies. After the War the occupying military (including My Dad) found a leftover or two.
