Japanese translation on this Meiji period tobacco pouch

    From my research I believe this to be a tobacco pouch from the Meiji period. Inside the pouch are Japanese characters. It appears the fabric left no pattern in an area to write on. Anyone know if this would be an owners name or makers name and can anyone translate it for me.
    Also would the little guy with the horns be considered a Tenqu? chat1.jpg chatsig1.jpg

    Welcome Ludi, that is a beautiful pouch and netsuke combination.
    I think it is more of an ogre type, maybe Oni.

    Although it is Japanese, maybe our members @Couch Potato Wannabe or @JayBee can help with the translation. I turned your photo of the text around so they won't need physio.;)
