Featured Japanese water color

i Wanted to know if someone recognizes this artist. My dad bought this recently, the person he bought it from, said his father got it in ww2.

 

You can readily get some info on line by searching for 'Japanese artist Bizan'. That's what most of us run off & do.

 

That's a Chinese tobacco pipe.....

Hi Komokwa, I believe this to be a Japanese tobacco pipe, called a kiseru. They usually come with a case as in the attached example, and often with a tobacco pouch as well. The better quality ones sometimes have beads or small carvings attached by the owners. Tobacco smoking was an art and often involved special bowls to mix the tobacco and trays to present the objects. I have collected several antique kiseru from Japan over the years, and some are beautifully carved with exceptional detail on the metal parts of the pipe.

I often get them mixed up. The chinese having a different thicker mouthpiece !
