Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

A few months ago I gave away some broken jewelry, but didn't have photos. I took photos of this group.

I'd like to give these to somebody who would reimburse for postage.

None have much value, except that the setting of the cameo with the brown background is marked 14KT GF. The cameo itself is made of milk glass. Somebody painted the background brown. It's kind of odd looking, IMO. I'm not sure why I bought it.

If more than one person is interested, I'll draw names. Let me know if you have questions! Yes, the necklace in the middle is broken. Also, the cameo at the far right is missing a stone or two. The stones in that one are sort of the aurora iridescence. They are glass.

Oh, and I forgot... the ring that you can see best in the bottom photo is marked Whiting & Davis. It's sort of a clear cameo.

Why would you do this? Post Free Stuff on a board full of hoarders? Good grief, Fig, you'll have a virtual stampede! :jawdrop:

I think it's a lovely batch! I have a blouse that needs a pin to keep the front top shut. Thank you so much for your generous offering, Fig.

    Please count me in! :)

Goodness, Anti -- nobody keeps that top button closed anymore!!

Sometimes I use bar pins to close "gap-py" tops of button-down shirts or blouses. And that would be if they either are not buttoned all the way up, or are not designed to button all they way up. Some just don't fit correctly.

What is that orangy piece above and to the left of the owl? What is that material?

(and why am I not seeing a cursor while typing this?)

It's a clip... I think a fur clip, because it has sharp little "teeth" or prongs on the back of the flap that is sticking above the orange part. The orange part is plastic, supposed to look a bit like coral, I think. The metal is just a pot metal.

I don't know the answer to your last question.

Just asking because I have a very similar pin. I see that someone is asking about a necklace with what looks like the same kind of plastic beads. Yes, it does resemble coral (ay least in color). (And no, I'm still not seeing the cursor.)

It is a dress clip - one can tell by the little prongs on the back.
Fur clips have sharp pins on the backs, like this . . .

The orange part may be celluloid unless it by a really good company, then it *might* be coral.

Silverthwait, I lost a lot of weight in the year right after my hubby died. I failed to think about that when I packed to go to my condo and so the blouses I left here to wear are all too large for me now!

Although the weight loss came naturally, it's been difficult to eliminate the toxins from my body, almost overwhelming actually. Now I understand why / how it happens that a surviving spouse can so easily die within a year of losing their beloved spouse. I was so very ill for that first year.

I do look at my loss of weight as a "gift" that I was given, rather than yet another problem of the death of my 26 year long marriage. I look towards the bigger picture of life and I am so grateful to be here, alive.

Thanks, Messilane. You're right, it doesn't have that kind of prong. So, dress clip it is. And, it is definitely NOT coral. I know the difference, and now I have a gem tester and am testing everything. I tested a coral cameo I have, and the indicator does move. I tested this and ... no movement whatsoever. I also don't think it's celluloid, but somebody else can decide that.

By the way, I'll give this until late afternoon or early evening tomorrow (Sunday) for people to put their names in. Thanks!

Congratulations to Cheryl (Dragonflywink), who will be getting all of this lovely jewelry!

As a side note, this is my 1,000th post on the Antiquers site. I guess I should find some other occupation!

After being caught up in the Christmas mail mess, my package of well-packed treasures arrived today - what fun poking through it all! All sorts of stuff to play with and wear, the 'coral' dress clip is molded Czech glass and it makes me happy, as do all the fun cameos (the ring conveniently already adjusted to my size). The sweet black enamel & brass 'V' pin (it has a butterfly at the point), and the dainty stamped brass filigree pendant with the green set and beads (probably Czech too) are also among my favorite pieces - but all very nice.

    Thanks so much, Fig!

Cheryl, that's great -- I could have sworn the coral clip was plastic. I'm glad that it's glass!
