Pretty sure it is not a “bend over and think of England” type
because if your temperature was minus 38 or plus 50 you'd
be well and truly cactus. Keep thinking of breweries for some
reason. It is a mercury “Goldbrand” make which is still made
and it is the highest accuracy model. Sure I knew what is was used for
once but can't remember. Would someone please put me out of
    my misery.
    Cheers

I'm going to have to accept that as I can't think of a better use although the PC people would probably "chuck a wobbly" at the idea of mercury being used with a baby.

Mercury thermometers were stuck in my mouth when I was a kid.

Better the mercury was in a baby`s bath than up your jacksie.:D:D

I remember a thermometer breaking in the sink once and picking up the drops and letting them roll around on my hand until my mother said to wash it down the drain. I was about 7.
