My Grandpa has an old lamp he said it belonged to his father. That's pretty much all we know about it. He always called it the Lady Lamp. It's very heavy, possibly bronze? Possible to date based on glasswork or power plug? AMW is written / stamped on the back. Maybe Ronson's Art Metal Works?
Any information or resources would be really fantastic.

    Thank you!

Louis V. Aronson, artist and inventor founded Art Metal Works in Newark, New Jersey. In the 1930's the name was changed to Ronson Art Metal Works.

Sometimes called radio lamps. Most likely plated spelter, rather than bronze. Imagine the cord is a 50s-60s replacement. Company went on to produce the famous Ronson lighters.

Your lamp appears to be in incredible condition and would be eagerly sought by collectors if so. However, I kind of get the idea that this may have been repainted. Can you tell if this is the case?

What should I look for in determining if it was repainted?

We think that maybe it was given to my Great Grandpa during his time as a state senator in the late 1950's.

My Grandpa would like to sell it but it's tricky figuring out a fair price. My uneducated guess might be a low $300, high $700?

In your photo of the back, the black paint looks sloppily applied. The paint job should probably be better than this, with individual pieces painted before assembly. If the black paint overlaps on to separate pieces, it is likely a repaint. Also look for brush marks. I think the paint job probably should have been sprayed rather than hand painted on these parts. I also think the main body should probably be plated rather than painted. This company was known for their plating expertise. Any paint should probably only be for contrast details. It would be nice to find another one of these for comparison.

This site invites inquiries about Ronson products. It is primarily a site about their lighters but also handles inquiries about their lamps. I do not believe it is directly affiliated with the company.

Here is the link to their inquiry page. They make no mention of a charge for service but I would not be surprised if there is one.

You should check out this site: http://www.vintage-ronson.com/ They offer history/value reports on vintage Ronson items (at a cost looks like) and have an Ask the Expert link near the bottom of the main page. Nice lamp!
