Welcome, Beaverking! I think we're going to need more light on the lantern and more pictures from other angles so all the details of construction and condition can be seen.

Interesting piece. More substantial than was evident in the first picture and probably older too. Where did you get this and how long have you had it?

Do any of the sides swing open? Is there a base piece?

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

i'm going out on a limb to say it looks like a reproduction of a much earlier model of lantern...

It hung on the porch of an old log cabin in Southern NJ and I got it from its previous owner. She did not know much about it, just that it had hung there forever and it was old.ha

The sides are all similar to the one in the pic and none of them open. Unfortunately the base piece is missing and it looks like it had been wired for a bulb.

Ah, so what we see "looking up" on the inside is remnants of a socket?

Seems to be an old socket, yes.

Yes, old, 100 years or so as mentioned. What's nice is it's cast iron - in sections. A later example of cast iron objects which were so popular 1850 through 1920. Definite Arts & Crafts form. It would look neat wired with an Edison style bulb.
