I couldn't leave this at the store for the price I got it at. Just trying to find a place to keep it now - ha :)

Not sure if this is soapstone/alabaster/marble/other. Probably leaning towards the gypsum variety of alabaster. Anyhow - with the base this is 21" high. The sculpture itself is about 16.5" high, 18.5" from corner to corner(diagonally). The base is a black stone - I think soapstone.

Not signed or marked that i've been able to find. The base has no markings on the bottom, you can just see the nut and bolt holding the statue to the base. The nut and bolt don't look that old (not more than 50 years I'd say). I haven't weighed it yet but I'd guess it's north of 40 pounds.

Any guesses where from? What does it represent? Human figure? Elephant? Bird? Pretzel?(i'm just hungry). Thanks for any input!

Looks like Kisii stone from Kenya, there are similar sculptures from Zimbabwe but I think they are Shona stone which usually comes in browns, beiges and grey/black where Kissi can be naturally pink.

It definitely could be Kissii stone - agree with you. One note, the pictures make it look a lot more pink than it really is - I think my white balance was a bit off. It's almost more of a pure white with off white/beige veining. It may have a very slight tinge of pink but - I think that was more of my white balance being skewed. Lemme see if I can get a more true to life pic posted.

Sorry about the bad color on the other pics - this is more the natural color of it - but - still could be a Kisii stone carving, although I've never seen one this big before.
