Large carved mask. Thinking tourist, but can you tell me anything else?

Thinking this was a tourist piece, but the price was right ($10) and I was drawn to the animal figures. Anything you can tell me? I know masks are tricky. Has a certain charm, but I don't think terribly high end.

Is that an owl on the top?

It is a lighter type of wood, stained inside. Hard to see in photo, but eye holes are cut out. Measures 20" x 8". Thanks.

Yes, owl on his head and perhaps a turtle on his chest?

I get a Mexican / Central American vibe (like Guatemala or Honduras). It could also perhaps be a hobby carving.

Yes, could be Mexican/Central American. I was looking around Ebay and saw similar (listed as Mexican) with 3 characters top to bottom like this called a "totem mask". Would that be a good descriptor?

In my admittedly limited experience, I have not encountered a consistent name for the kinds of masks carved in Central America, so I would think yes, you could call it that.

I'd not use the word "totem," which has the implication of being Native American, specifically NW Coast Native American or Canadian First Nations.
I'd call it a mask, likely Mexican or Central American, with an owl and possibly a turtle, if listing or describing it.
