Featured large Crystal/rock specimen

    hi folks, picked this up at a car boot today, just thought it looked interesting

    i'm presuming crystal/quartz as its slightly transparent

    anyone have an idea ?

    not sure buddy, its got to be something like that, looking into it i think fluorite might be too soft

    Sure looks like raw fluorite to me. Can you scratch it with a steel knife?

    Fluorite is soft. If all else fails it'll be a pretty doorstop.

    Hi mate, yeah it will scratch with a knife, so is a possibilty

    i thought about that earlier whit but can't find me torch

    glows bright green by saber light though :playful::playful::playful::playful:

    The colors are typical of fluorite. Don't use it as a doorstop; fluorite has great cleavage & will easily fracture along molecular planes. And don't keep it in the sun; it can fade.

    A rather anemic specimen of rainbow fluorite, I would say.

    Another positive for fluorite. Never use fluorite as a doorstop.:nailbiting::facepalm:

    yeah this could take a door no probs Aj, which is why i'm still questioning it being fluorite (a bit)

    the base shows a more quartzy look, so perhaps a mix ?

    Fluorite often 'grows' on quartz or other stones.
