    Heyy everybody!

This is my other opaline box that came in yesterday.
This also is a larger one.

It's richly decorated with enamel in various colors.

I think it's French, but I'm not sure how old it is.

Condition: Close to perfect. Except for a piece inside the box that has been glued on.
This is just a chip of the glass that had come off and glued back on. It's not visible from the outside.

I hope somebody can help me date this one.
There's only one box I found online, describing it as Napoleon III
but I don't even know what period that is really.
    Probably 1880?

    Thank you!

    Wow! Beautiful work. I'd say 1870s, 1880s.

    Napoleon III was 1808 - 1873.
My experience with antique French jewellery is that to some people Napoleon III is a catch-all phrase for 19th century, even if it is after 1873. This doesn't mean that your trinket box isn't pre-1873.

    Okay I didn't know that. :) But..

I did spot another one today saying it was from the Biedermeier period 1815-1880.

And the person I bought it from described it as Victorian.
The victorian period lasted from 1837-1901.

Now I assume it's French, right?
So it either: NAPOLEON III, or..
(and I had to look that up, because I come across this a lot)
just described as "XIX", meaning 19th Century.

Napoleon III reigned during what was termed the Second Empire period in France - 1852 through 1870. Much of the design (particularly clothing and interior decor) corresponds to what many consider Victorian as it occurs during that period. France was a fashion leader then (as now).

    Just a nice "fact"... (I think it's a fact :p )

Maybe 1,5 years somebody on a glass forum told me, that you have opaline glass...
and you have opalescent opaline glass. The opalescent means that you should see orange color when holding it to the light. Creating this opalescent effect is made by combining ashes to the glass.

Now most ofmy white opaline doesn't have this glow.
And this one does. See pictures.

By the way.. the other box I was talking about.
I didn't share the link or pictures because I didn't want to create bidding competition :p It ended litteraly 10 minutes ago, and I bought it.

    It's described a biedermeier milkglass.

But this is opaline. I'm just wondering, biedermeier...
    It's this one French too?
