Curious about this utilitarian looking pot or jar. The outside is a thin, light blue/green glaze. The inside glaze is a very thick, deep brown. I’m guessing the capacity would be around 1 1/2 gallons or so?
Any info would be appreciated, Thank You!

check out stoneware crocks - the larger ones are used for making sauerkraut. Not sure if you can id the maker from the brown interior or not.

I figured it was for something ‘wet’ from the very non-porous interior, didn’t think about kraut though! Thank You!

It's for something that has to sit in brine or other liquid. Something you wanted to keep the bugs and critters out of. (and maybe the husband/children)

    Hi,
I HATED making sauerkraut. We used 20 to 25 gallon crocks. The smell of the "burping" lids was so bad to this day it is the only thing that I can remember.

I’m sorry you had to relive the experience....but glad to hear the story!!

Anyone have any clue as to the time period of this crock? 1900-1930 maybe?

Love sauerkraut when I could eat it. That and sour pickles. Yummmmm.
