A new friend asked if I could tell him anything about the holster, belt, and buckle pictured. I don’t know a thing about old leather. Anyone here know? I may try and steer some experts this way to take a look, but please give opinions. I don’t have dimensions but these items appear to be the correct sizes for US Army 19th C. Gear.

I asked one of the top militaria appraisers in the country to take a look and he replied:

“This is regulation style Army holster and it looks original. Usually there is inspector or makers mark on back or tab. They do make an exact copy and not sure how long they have been around. I can’t say for sure without it in-hand but based on pics look OK...”

Buckle back has stamped letters O.J. Probably inspector’s initials?

I think similar to ACW ..the north.. the union forces...usually fits a remington or colt percussion revolver, but this style of holster continued into the 20th c...my confederate one follows same style and does fit a remington, buckle and clasp style similar to period...any Yankees there to help...regards ..pewter2

Just as an aside ....the Confederate troops would wear the buckle upside down if it was a captured/ retrieved belt from a Union soldier....must be a reenactor or military historian who can give confirming info...regards ..pewter2
