This was found while we were archiving -- I've never seen anything like it. It's a leather strap that fits around the hand and an extra loop for the thumb. In the middle, so where the palm would be, is a another piece of leather sewn over a thimble (?) -- is this a sewing accessory?

For some reason I'm thinking a hand protector for a shoemaker. Not sure what part of my brain that's coming from.

    Hi,
My old leather belt maker used to use a similar object. I had over a dozen belts made for me over a six year period. Sam was so good at matching different sterling designs to make the buckles for his belts.

Ah-Ha! Thank you so much everyone. Once the sewing glove was put out there, a quick Google search identified it as a sewing palm -- very much appreciated! You guys rock!!

Used for leather, and also for mending sails.

The only name I've known is "sailmaker's palm," but I live with a dude who grew up on sailboats.

And who is way way better at hand stitching than I am. :p

Even better than that new-fangled sewing contraption, which takes up a lot of space. Space which you can now use for other nice objects, like your favourite Gothic concrete mixer:

    Hi,
I have always heard that you only need two things in your tool box. Duct tape when something moves when it shouldn't and DW-40 when it should move but doesn't.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
