Things like this were all the rage in the time surrounding the US bi-centennial - 1976.

In September of 1963, our "new" teacher for the year asked what each of us had done over our summer vacation...

Albert, a boy in my class, announced that he & his family had gone to Philadelphia. "And what did you see there, Albert?" questioned Mrs. Riley.

"There was this big bell," he answered. "They tried to ring it to show us what it sounded like, and it cracked!"

... This was the same Albert who had told our prior year's teacher that his family had gone to England.... by car!

    Funny, the stuff you remember!

    Oh my goodness.

I've probably shared this before from my early elementary school years but . . .

A little boy in my class had made a mistake of consistently misspelling one word in a class assignment. The teacher called him to her desk and said "Freddie (not real name), you have misspelled [word] each time you wrote it. You need to cut that out."

"Freddie" returned to his desk, took his school-issued blunt scissors out of his desk and proceeded to "cut out" all instances of that word. He then went to the teacher's desk to show her that he had made the needed "correction."

    Honest, true story.

There were 10's of thousands of them made for the 200th Bicentennial in that size, most were plated pot metal with a fair number in brass and copper.

I belive this to be copper.
I didnt think it was rare, just trying to date it approximately.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The style of it looks like 1960s or 1970s to me. So the 1976 date may be possible.

The one pictured is spelter, I am 100% certain. The color is artificial, you will seldom if ever see real copper or bronze with that purplish stuff on it, but spelter nicknacs often have that color if made to resemble antique copper alloys. The white powdery oxidation is indicative of spelter.
