Originally, an' for ~10 years after I got these in an odd-lot auction, they were completely sealed in thin, tinned-both-sides sheet steel with nicely soldered seams...but without any markings. I could faintly hear the rattle within, but hadn't a clue what the contents could be. I finally succumbed to my growing curiously an' carefully stripped the sheetmetal from this package. I then tried to elicit age an' other pertinent information from Diamond Match, without so much as an acknowledgement from their corporate HQ.
I have no idea whether these were for civil or military emergency use, but make the comfortable assumption of life-boat supplies based on the method used to ensure protection from moisture. There are 12 small packages of matches inside; the color of the wrap in pic 2 is only slightly faded from when opened...the other surfaces have not been exposed to sunlight, only photons from ordinary (incandescent Tungsten) lightbulbs, an' are quite faded as a result.
I suppose there's a market for them, just as is...but they cannot be shipped by any means I'm aware of...an' if they were, the cost would probably be prohibitive. I offer them here on the off chance that some of you folks might be familiar with the American Clipper brand...or life-boat supplies. Thanks for lookin'!

Yeah...might be worth listing that way. I haven't ever done a local pickup, 'cept for craigslist. Good thought, Komo...thanks.

You can ship them and the cost should be quite modest. Since it’s an entire box, with contents, and potentially military related there should be an audience. If you retained the original packaging you spoke of I’d photograph that and offer to include it in the sale if the buyer wants it.

To my knowledge, neither USPS nor UPS...an' probably FedEx...will allow matches to be carried by their systems.

They will allow safety matches to be shipped via ground methods. Google for specifics.

Sort of like Wikipedia, just a general reminder now that googs is forcing this AI nonsense, always click through links to judge the info source. There are a lot of terrible copy paste AI sites that exist to serve ads and not real info. They get pushed to the top with seo manipulation, and then googs AI reguritates. I typically scroll right past that to the links just to be safe.

I stand seriously corrected, Dagger...an' the key is on the package: Safety Matches!
I'll list 'em, see where it goes. Thank you for your help!
