Wisteria? I think whoever painted this plate was more comfortable doing the vines and leaves. I like that scrolling.

Nope - you were right the first time. Heart shaped leaves = lilacs (which come in a variety of shades of purple, lavender, pale pale pinkish lavender, etc.

Hydrangeas are fatter, rounder and bluer.

Wisteria is purple and twist and turny.

    LOL!

    Hi Silver,
You forgot Lilacs also come in white. My next door neighbor has a wonderful bush with the most deep aroma. Where have you been????? Sorry I missed your "etc"

Absolutely not wisteria, they have long hanging racemes of individual fat flowers, shapes rather like a bean or pea flower. Sometimes deep blue, some more purply. And some even white.

The flowers do indeed look like white lilac but the foliage has nothing to do with that. See those tendrils? More like morning glory, including the heart shaped leaves.

It's something else, let me have a think. Possibly one of the clematis species. I've seen the blasted thing.

You do, by the way, get hydrangeas in multiple colours, which is influenced by soil PH. I've a rather nice climbing white one.

(The color of hydrangeas gives a vital clue to detective Kinsey Millhone in Sue Grafton's ""S" is for Silence".)
