Does anyone know who this bearded military man is? He is the lithophane in the bottom of the stein. Cannot tell if the damage is in it or on it. Will bleach hurt porcelain?? Thanks!
Can you show a picture of the front of the stein? Are the cards repeated or different all the way around.
Looks like him; it had to be him or Bismark, and it doesn't look like Bismark. Old Fred here was the Kaiser's father. He was Queen Victoria's son-in-law.
The peroxide did nothing, I think its right in the porcelain. Are these a certain type of playing cards that may play some role in determining the age and maker of this item? Thanks again for all the comments and help with ID of the man.
Don't know about the type of playing cards, but I was struck by the hearts, and the jugglers. Was curious what was in the center front. A heart and is that a thistle? I don't think it is King Frederick of Prussia. There are several things that don't match up. Hair on the forehead, part in the middle. All the pictures of Frederick have nicely trimmed beard. No furrowed brow. Also, I cannot find one uniform with the square front http://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-fr...g-of-prussia-emperor-of-germany-41768649.html
I have no idea if it's him or not but he seemed to have liked many different uniforms. Here is a double breasted one, hair parted differently.
Tsar Nicholas II had a similar hairline and wore double breasted uniforms sometimes... https://goo.gl/images/O815la
I agree with clutteredcloset49, never, ever use bleach on ceramics! It will cause serious damage you really don't want to deal with!
@say_it_slowly I agree, it looks an awful lot like Frederick. Except for the scraggly beard. Frederick is always well groomed.
