Featured Little jade dragon

Can anyone help with describing this piece of jade. Can it even be ID’ed?. I know there are several types of jade But I am still learning. A little dragon eating a gourd? Very strange to me why this piece was made.

 

Necklace?
It may have hung on a silk cord.

 

It may not be old.
I go to some gem and mineral shows where there are Chinese importers with tables of carved pieces.

Gorgeous, I would have bought it too. It looks like serpentine jade, a kind of serpentine that looks like jade. It also looks to have some age.
Do you have a gemstone tester? It tests the hardness of the stone on the Mohs scale, and help determine if this is serpentine or jade.

I'd say a little dragon resting on some gourds. They love a bit of r&r, like these on my snuff bottles, also resting on gourds:

It doesn't, it roams and roars.

 

Mine is too small for all that display; he just hisses and spits.
