This little box looked like a big candy! I suspect someone here will know right away where this kind of thing was probably made. It seems like a lot of work went into a pretty non-functional trinket.

Is it cold to the touch, like stone? It looks like pieces of coloured bone to me.

As AJ just said, it looks like it is made of dyed strips of bone.

It feels coolish. And feels stoney against my teeth. I tried scratching the green stripe on the lid interior with a sharp tip of steel scissors - to 20201104_141209.jpg 20201104_141355.jpg 20201104_141400.jpg not much effect. I took some close-ups.

Dyed bone. Probably India, maybe China but odds on India. I'd bet it was made in the 1970s or later.

If I may, I'd like to stick with the idea it's candy... lemon, lime, orange, blueberry...

Almost unanimous ! Thanks all ! I had no idea bone could be so hard.
And judging by retro fashions, the 70s is probably its' era. stripes.jpg more stripes.jpg
