Little wine glasses or open salts?

    Hi everyone,

I picked up a few of these at a sale. They are small - only 2 1/4" high and are 2 1/4" wide at the top - so I'm not sure what they are meant to be. They are very pretty 12-sided optic cut glass with a solid base. No marks. The glass is fairly thick so I don't think you could easily drink from them, so perhaps open salts? Has anyone seen them before? Thanks!

Ok I am just throwing this out there. I had a pair of glasses similar in size that came with some packaging to explain what they were used for.
Each glass was meant to hold one rose or flower with a bit of the cut stem sitting in the glass as decor for the table.
I have no idea if that is what yours were meant for at all.
    Hope someone can help out.

I think they would look lovely on a table with individual roses in them! Thanks.

Never heard of Penny Licks before! But given the proclivities of the Victorians for having an individual whatsis for every separate item of food or drink, it seems inevitable.

Re the individual bouquets at table, and having neither cordials nor penny licks, I use cut crystal toothpick holders. A large flower on a short stem works well, as does a wee bunch of violets.

If I didn't see the photos of examples with the decanters, I would have called them custard cups. :)

I'd call those Bohemian schnapps or tot glasses. Twenties.

That's what I was thinking too. Or slivovitz or other high-alcohol brew that you toss off rather than sip. No good for cognac or whisky for sure.
