I found this locket/watchcase today that had a wire wrapped around the stem to make a pendant loop and that was strung on old lamp or fan pull chain. As unprepossessing as that sounds, it appeared that the back was finely made, so I brought it home. It is large with a 2 inch diameter - not counting the stem and is 3/8 inch wide.
There appears to be a lined interior, and some dark green enamel paint intertwined with the stones. There is fine work on the top and sides and a hinge.
It is not magnetic and there are no marks that I can find on the outside. The stem at the top has a hole, which I assume had a piece that connected it to something else.
I wanted to present it to you all in order to get some idea of what it was and recommendations on what to do. It looks like it may have been glued shut, so I will have to either remove the glue myself or take it to a jeweler who will charge me an arm and a leg. So it is worth pursuing further or is it a modern reproduction?

Looks like the design on both sides was die stamped.

So the back was not engraved. Thank you for this insight. I know you do engraving and would know.

Sorry to say it looks like the costume jewelry made to look like antique jewelry.
Been on the market for the last few years. A lot of it comes out of China.
    Antiqued brass.
It should open. What's the inside look like? There may be a mark there.

A lot of the imported costume jewelry comes on that type of chain.

Thanks for that. All I did was remove the wire and give it some swipes with a sunshine cloth. I'll try to open it then.

    I didn't say that.
Just that it is newer and most likely imported.

Thanks for clarifying. I guess I should had said I was only interested if it was older.

If you like it and would wear it, does it really matter if it is old or new?

If I like something and it mixes well with my other jewelry, I don't care if it is old or new. I wear both at the same time.

    .
I agree 100%. I mix old and new all the time. I just bought this out of curiosity, and would have only kept it if it was older. I never planned to wear it.

Kiki, the back (?) did show this tiny mark which still may not be anything but a fake signature, but just to say I saw it.....but it was still too blurry on magnification for me to read......maybe you saw it too??

So kind of you to search it like this and take the time to point this out. New sunshine cloth made it go away. :):):):):)
