I have no idea if this is an actual antique or much of anything else about it. I believe it is a lion but somebody suggested a wild boar. The length is confusing. It measures around 9.75" long and is around 3.25" tall. I would appreciate any help as far as where it may have originated, exactly what animal it represents, the type of wood used and any other info that may be useful. Thank you in advance.

Not a boar, but doesn't look much like a lion either.

My vote is for stylized lion. Can't tell you much else, I'm sorry to say.

It's copying a Benin/Dahomey bronze shape. Lion. I'd be looking at somewhere in west Africa.

Another vote for lion. Charming, it puts a smile on my face. Probably made somewhere in Africa, which is not very precise.:(

Thanks all, my uneducated eye told me African lion also and you have given some good leads. Between the type of wood, patina and unique form, I do find it easy on the eyes.

And remember, just because it doesn't look like a lion, doesn't mean that's not what it was intended to be. ;)
