I found this brooch that consists of an agate slice and a metal surround, which is missing a section of decoration. I brought it home to ask you all if the pin, which is longer than modern pieces, and the C catch shows it is an older piece?

I'd say the pin shows it's age....

Old banded agate pin, nice, shame it’s damaged :(

It's purpose now is to serve as a learning tool so there is still life left. :) I am trying to learn how to spot the old stuff, and to share this process of discovery with other members. I saw the tube hinge, the c catch and the long pin and I thought aha. I appreciate your confirmation. I have a rock collection and it can join them on a little stand.

An iconic Victorian tube hinge, long pin, C clasp! Good deduction:)

Even better! That's what I thought. I had read somewhere here that this may be the time period. You are always so generous with your knowledge, so you helped in it's rescue. Thank you.

Thanks for weighing in. I read somewhere here that Victorians liked to wear agates, so that was why I picked it up out of the corner in the first place.
