Looking for info on an old compass

Hello! My grandpa gave me an old compass. He said that it can date back to world war 1 or earlier. I'd wish to know around what year it was made or used and maybe how much it would cost these days.
In working condition, a bit rusted and there has been some water inside.
Instead of having north, west, south and east, it has north, west south and something starting with O
Most likely made somewhere around the Baltic states, Germany or Russia.

The word starting with O, is it Ost, or is it oost? Ost is German, oost is Dutch.

It is if it has an S for south. In Dutch it woud have a Z.
I can't see the details very well, the glass is very scratched. At least it saw a lot of use, which is why it was made in the first place.

Put a light coating of vegetable oil on the glass and take another photo.

 

And in French it is Ouest.

 

I forgot about that one, but ouest means west, east is est in French. So there would be no W, which Jade says there is.

With the W opposite the O, and Jade's description of where the NN and S are, the O is for East. What language has a word for east that starts with O?

 

East is Ost in German, oost in Dutch. This one is likely to be German, given the S for Süd (south). In Dutch that would be a Z for zuid.
