This was my grandmother's and she gave it to me when she passed away. She had it since she was a little girl (she was born in the 1894). She told me that it was a manicure box. It is about 1 1/2" x 3". It appears to be gold leaf and it says Made in France on the bottom. Has anyone seen anything like this? Thanks! 20200121_163636.jpg 20200121_163620.jpg 20200121_163733.jpg

We don't really see too many things marked "made in" much before the early 1920's ..

Thank you. Perhaps I have the story wrong. She must have acquired it as an adult.

When you're old (like me) anything before I was 25 is probably referred to as "when I was a little boy" :chicken::bag::wideyed:

These are very collectible. "Made in France" items such as these, decorated in bronze with rhinestones, date to the turn of the century.

Stylistically they look later to me, but if you say so ...

It looks dead on for circa 1900 to me, especially the stones and their settings. I'm wondering if there wasn't something glued into those oval holes too.

I think my grandmother said that there were white stones in the ovals holes.

Very pretty. Is it unusual that it slides open like a drawer?. I wonder what the original contents were?
