The artist was living in England and New Zeland but he may have visited different places.

    Wild-eyed guess . . . could it possibly be Santo Domingo??? ;)

Please wait to see what others say.

Looks like "San" somethin'. Doesn't appear to be a tropical locale.

Immigrated to New Zealand in 1876. Died there in 1919 but 'tween times did travel. Wonder where he would have been in 1914 when much of the world was at war.

    San Donato?
There is a San Donato on the Italian Riviera. It is now part of the municipality of Finale Ligure.

C91C3B85-E653-4851-AA7C-5B087427A488.jpeg I think it ends on “no”, so to me San Domino makes most sense. Can’t tell for sure if the last word is Lake or something else.

    I hate pencil on wood.

Have you tried photos from different angles? I hate to say that when you do an excellent job of "straight on" (a skill so many people have yet to attain), but I certainly can't sort it as is (to me, it looks like the "D" word ends in an "r" or an "i" with a flourish).

Okay, without reviewing this thread, I stared at that image and ended up at San Donato. Which, I see, is where @Any Jewelry started.

The architecture works and the trees work as olive trees.

Blossom doesn't look right for olives.

I'm not bothered by the trees as olive, but almond works, too. :)

The trunks are darkish, and the growth looks right for almond.

At first I thought it said, "a view of [something] from [something]", but now I'm not sure...
