This is silk right? Any idea what it may be for? The decorative trim and terminal seem to be specifically placed for something. Approximately 16’ long. The color blows me away. That’s my guess. The placement of the decorative areas seems to specific though so I really wasn’t sure.

Could be for sure but seems odd to go through the trouble of making it to leave the job unfinished.

edit: I thought it was just standard fabric until I unrolled it and noticed the decorative trim wasn’t uniform.

edit 2: oh, like a work in progress you mean?

I'm not an expert and you've got a better view of placement but the embroidery seems in the right places for the end of the stole part, the folded edge, etc.

The site is extremely slow for me and photos hardly load, but from the little I can see it is indeed a silk sari. Sari is also spelled saree.

Saris generally have two different ends, the most decorated end goes over the shoulder and hangs down the back. Maybe that difference is what you're seeing, but as I said, I can hardly see anything.

    Normal speed again.;)
It looks like it is sari fabric on the roll;), which hasn't been cut and seamed(?) yet. It seems to have a beautiful moiré effect, which my sari also has. Yours goes from from purple to indigo, mine alternates between green and blue, both in the turquoise range.

I know there are regional differences, but don't know the specifics.

Thanks Mirana and AJ. I thought it probably was for a sari or was a sari but I don’t have any experience with how they work/are worn and didn’t want to jump to conclusions.

It is indeed silk right? Any thoughts on the quality? I don’t know if it’s a $500 sari or a $20 sari. It seems pretty darn nice to me. Not looking for a valuation per se but maybe a nudge towards what end of the spectrum I have if y’all happen to know.

    Beautiful sari fabric!
A sari is usually at least 6 yards long (18 feet).
Since this material is 16 feet in length, perhaps is it is a remnant, or unusable due to the frayed end.

That is a stunning beautiful piece of silk. The color is so rich, an' the decoration adds depth to it. C'est Magnifique!

A sari indeed, and not a cheap one. It may have been damaged and thus never finished off, or else someone chopped off a piece because they didn't wear saris.

I cannot help on price, but silk in a beautiful color with pretty embroidery is definitely not a $20 piece, even if altered. It's not my material, region/culture, or market speciality though....sorry. :sorry:

Not horribly, but it would if I wore the garment and looked good in purple.

Thanks for all the replies guys and gals. Glad I wasn’t alone on loving the color and designs. Last thing I grabbed in the final seconds of a sale. Didn’t even have to pay for it really. I mean maybe I paid $1. It was an add on to an armful I already had. Always amazes me how nice things escape everyone’s eyes.

Stracci you had to come around and rain on the parade with your facts :p!!! Maybe a real short ladies sari? Isn’t 16ft close enough!? Hoy!!!! J/K thanks for the info.
