I recently acquired a Japanese vase / Urn from a collector in Nice California. I, so far, have not been able to get much information on it. One person I talked with who lived in Japan for years and also collects and loves Asian Art works said he thought it might be from the Meiji / Edo period.
Any hepl with this would be wonderful.

The top view is confusing. It looks like the top part, at least, might be a painted plaster reconstruction.

Unusual vase. It almost looks Western made, but with a Japanese theme. @Mat may know this style.

Greetings, Rusty. I am very doubtful of this being made in Japan. Shape is wrong, handles are wrong, bottom wrong, decoration looks much more European than Asian (despite the figures.) Looks possibly "cold-painted" without clear glaze (which is evident at the rim and some other places on the body.) On the "back" are what appear to be spots of "air brush" application of paint.

Now, that said, I would be thrilled for you if it really is Japanese and that old. Wait for Mat to chime in.

Hi, I think it is indeed Japanese, early 20th c, with a bit of European Art Nouveau influence in the painting style... Definitely it is not as old as Edo period...
