I found this wall plaque in the junk section at an antiques shop yesterday. Lovely piece, dirty but in great condition. No marks but its quite heavy. I came home to do some research before purchasing and could find barely anything on it, except that there a few of these floating around and I was surprised to find that they are listed for between 100-300 dollars. The plaques were all exactly identical in shape, size, and design to the one I found. A few sellers listed it as pewter, and one advertised that it was a 1950s piece, but I can find no record of them being made, nor why they were created. There is nothing on their history at all. I do know that its depicting the Greater Coat of Arms, which is the royal version. If anyone had any idea what they are and why they're worth so much that would be very much appreciated.

Please post a photograph of the back. (The hanging mechanism is helpful to dating.)

    If by this
you mean you see them offered for sale at those prices, not that you see ones that have sold for those prices, the answer to this

may be that they're not. You can only get an idea of current worth by seeing what others have sold for recently.

Oh absolutely. I totally understand that, I'd just like to know how they even got that figure in the first place. I saw a few that had been sold but I couldn't see how much for unfortunately.

Hope, imagination, & what they overpaid.

Could you find any working links for them. We may have someone who can find out.

I picked it up earlier this evening and cleaned some of the dust off. Pics of the back are below! Not sure how helpful it will be as it seems to have snapped upon closer inspection. Definitely not pewter, perhaps copper?

Does the back of yours look like this?

Things on Ruby Lane, where asking price is $295, tend to have very inflated prices. The one above is described as antique & that is figuring into their 119GBP asking price. Since there are so many of them floating around, would have to figure mass produced decorative items from mid 20th or later.

Another one, said to be pewter &, fortunately for them, just qualifying as an antique: This item is antique. 'The date of manufacture has been declared as 1920.'

None I have seen so far look like pewter to me. Bronze is my best guess.

    Aha!

Everyone who has one wants to think they are rare & antique & it seems like everyone & his brother has one. Can't really imagine anyone but a Luxemburger wanting one of these; can't imagine them wanting it enough to pay $300.

Yup @Bronwen the back of mine mainly looks like that, but without the ring indentation.

Thank you for all that information! It could very well be bronze.

Mine does not have that inscription on the back, would that suggest it is in fact a reproduction?
