Made in Japan? Is this a mark?

    Three footed shallow bowl 6" wide. Not marked other than this small thing near one of the legs, which, I'm not even sure is a mark. Since it does not have a country of origin, do you think this is prior to the The McKinley Tariff act of 1890? Thank you.

    It could be Japanese calligraphy/script.

    Well I found several Limoges bowls that are quite similar this. I wonder if this one is Limoges?
