I did some research on a couple of figurines I have. The one on the left is marked Made in Occupied Japan but the other one is just marked Japan. They are obviously not a set but they are so similar in style I'm wondering if the one marked Japan might also be from that time period. I read that sometimes in a set, only one figurine might be marked made in occupied Japan and the other just Japan. Any ideas on what the one marked Japan might be? MIOJ.jpg

Hello, caroln. I can't answer your question, but your figures caught my eye because, although at least one was made in occupied Japan, they look like figures from the Revolutionary War, the Founding Fathers, etc., very much geared to appealing to American patriotism. You would expect there to be a drummer boy too. Which is the one marked Occupied Japan? Our glass & pottery experts will want more photos, including the bottoms.

Could we see pictures of the marks, please?
They could have been made during the same period, and one not fully marked.

I took some pics of the bottoms and backs. I guess I don't have to bother about the one just marked Japan anymore. I tried to wash it instead of just dust it and the paint came off so it's ruined now. It wasn't dirty, that's just the color it is. backs.jpg bottoms.jpg Japan-ruined.jpg

I was afraid of that. Sorry I did not warn you.  They do strike me as being by the same maker; may be difficult to find a name.

Thank you for the links. I see one article says just to dust these particular figurines and not use any liquid on them. Live and learn! Luckily, according to the other link, they don't bring much over $8.00 or so I won't feel bad about tossing the one that got ruined. I still have the one marked made in occupied Japan, which is really the more interesting of the two. Thank you again for your replies.

If I were selling the remaining one, I would throw in the second as a freebie to the buyer. Let them throw it out if they don't like it.
