Hi all. I got these bone and bamboo mahjong tiles-- over 700 of 'em!-- at an estate sale yesterday.

What would you recommend as the best way to re-sell them?

I know there's a great discussion of these on another thread, inc @Shangas and others' input: https://www.antiquers.com/threads/mahjong.87206/

I think there may be enough to make 2 'complete' -ish sets. Should I try selling the remaining ones in small groups?

Where are all the '1's' in the bamboo suite?

What are the red and green single-character tiles?

Are the blank ones 'wild'? And if so, are they same as 'dragon' tiles?

Are these all hand-made and likely antique or nearly so?

    Any help appreciated!! Thank you.

    that's just weird........:wacky:

as if someone collected a bunch of random parts from broken up sets.???

If u can make a complete set....great..... if not..... sell it as one lot... imo..

So many tiles, and indeed not a single 1 in that suite?! Maybe the seller decided to keep it (or sold them in a separate lot?)

Spare tiles that can be used to replaced damaged/missing tiles

Both lots (https://www.ebay.com/itm/196836546832 or https://www.ebay.com/itm/285758227922) and single tiles (https://www.ebay.com/itm/355414452590) sell quite well on Ebay.

For additional info or answers to all other questions, we eagerly await the reappearance of the human mahjong encyclopedia @Shangas :)

I’d maybe throw crafts/art supplies in as keywords.

Sorry I couldn't answer this sooner - I just got back from a trip overseas!!

Literally. I got off the plane two hours ago.

    Anyway.

ONE BAMBOO is traditionally signified by a BIRD. Either a peacock, or a peasant or something like that.

The single-character tiles in red and green are the DRAGONS. There are THREE DRAGONS - RED, GREEN, and WHITE (usually signified by a BLANK TILE).

The four blue character tiles are the FOUR WINDS - North, East, South, and West.

And if you're trying to make sets out of these masses of tiles, remember that a FULL SET of MJ tiles is 144, not including any spares.

    Welcome back @Shangas
I will call the stores to tell them these are no longer needed:
