I think this is legitimately - really old. It's behind glass currently but I have looked at it under a loupe and appears to be an old print with hand coloring. Here are a few pics to get started with. Last pic is where i pulled back the corner of the carboard on the back of the frame and you can see the back corner of the map paper, which has the number 49 in handwritten ink ( I haven't taken the backing cardboard off any further yet...) It's about 20" x 16".

Questions - how old might this be? Also, should I mess with taking it out of the frame myself... I know I need to get it away from the cardboard - but - worth taking to a frame shop / preservationist? Thanks for your help/thoughts/opinions. :)

Just remembered I should check for laid paper - so I tore off a corner of the crap cardboard on the back - then shone a light from the front - looks like it is laid:

It looks to be a leaf from an atlas. (Is it not scored down center?)

Of course, plates could have been reused for reprinting so dates above directional.

It was folded at some point... perhaps it was in an atlas as you suggested - I don't know for sure - maybe this is part of the binding left on the back? You can see the fold much better on the back.
