Mask possibly Oceanic but probably West African

    I picked this one up because it looked different....At first I thought it was Oceanic but now I am not sure.... I have been away from Antiquers for awhile after my computer crashed....but I am back mask1.jpg mask2.jpg mask3.jpg mask4.jpg

    I can see why you thought it might be Oceanic, with the bulbous eyes. But I think it might be West African, Bambara/Bamana. Yours is comparatively simple, and most of the well identified images on the net are fancier - but if you google Bamana - Bambara masks you will see similarities, particularly with those carved for the Ntomo Society. Looking specifically at the elongated form, the high, rudimentary ears, the pursed/protruding lips, and the scarification on the cheeks and forehead.
