This is a big wooden lamp with serious MCM style. It needs a shade, but it works!

    Who made it?

Is it walnut? teak? something else?

    Thanks for any comments!

    Specs: 26" tall
likely with its original cord, plug says '15 A 125 V' (which may indicate US-made?), and the bulb socket says 'Leviton Made in the USA'
the shade is dumb (and is upside down--as found ;))

Found in an antique mall in Southern Oregon

    Yes, U.S.
Appears a home-made, one-off. The pattern may have come from Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, or another of that genre magazine.

That shade is upside down but it didn't come with the lamp? The proportions of the drum look right.

Interesting! I know what you're talking about. And I would never had thought of that.

The shade, it upright, sits too low relative to the bulb, which sticks 1" out above the top.

Interesting! I've been in that store many times, but didn't realize they specialized in lamps.

Im hoping that this lamp will be desirable to the MCM vibe around here.

This place, for example, sells MCM furniture and lighting and is close to my house:

Has a Modoline aesthetic. Yours looks to be walnut. Don't let the bench made appearance of the bottom convince you it's home made - overall looks to well done to be that IMO. I've seen a fair number of lower production MCM lamps such as this that were company made. Pair of Modeline's pictured here.

Thanks @Drew. I appreciate hearing this.

These lamps you posted are quite elegant. ...and seem like they'd be fragile as the decades tick on!

Not too fragile as lamps go. Quality wood used most often - teak, walnut, other hardwoods. Modoline quite well known and sought after by MCM lamp folks. Search images online . . . your bound to see another of yours sooner or later. Let the detective work begin ! !
