I had this painting for awhile now, I see a signature lower left but very hard for me to see, read etc. Anybody might know who this artist is or was ?

    Thank You 001.JPG 002.JPG 003.JPG 004.JPG 005.JPG 006.JPG 007.JPG 009.JPG 011.JPG

Skyscrapers, concretist / glass-box buildings, and massive electric illumination suggest something closer to MCML than to MCM, but then again, we just like to throw uniformed opinions around.:)
Sig looks kinda like "Early Birdman," but that can't be right...

Do you know that MCM stands for Mid-Century Modern? Not sure if you were just joking about the Roman numerals. Mid-Century Modern is indeed closer to MCML when you're talking about the Roman numerals for 1950! :)

fig, no, in fact we were half-serious in our remark, thinking OP did in fact mean "1900." Just wanted to get some replies started. "MCM" now added to our list of abbreviations and shorthand -- "learning every day" ("LED")...
aaron's read of "Evelyn Bertrand" looks pretty good, too...

It reminds me of the Bund, the famous waterfront of Shanghai. But I don't think it is.

Just making sure -- the abbreviation MCM is used quite often on this site. I have been here a while but never heard of it before I started running with this group!

Neither had I. Just one of the many things you learn here.:)
I usually break it down to the style, but that is the jewellery lover in me.

Thanks everyone, I will check both names given. To me though the painting looks like it was done around 1950 to 1970's, not 100% sure though.

And somehow it reminded me of Hong Kong skyline in the 70's. Unknown-5.jpeg

It was like that when I was there, but as soon as my back was turned....

Yes, so much change and so quickly, but it is still one of the most exciting cities in Asia. ;)
