Just for fun I thought I'd share a couple of goodies I bought from an auction last weekend. Both are walnut shelves ca. 1870s. One might have been made in Germany, or both may have been made in the U.S.

The one with Ms. Ghopper's Irma Starr Santa collection is about 33 U.S. inches wide and 9 tall. I'd wager a date of mid 1870s. The other has a deer head with antlers, tassels, and elaborate brackets. 1865-75 for that one.

I have a question, how are you sure that the goodies on the shelves won't fall?
    Just curious.

They’re strongly anchored in the walls with wood screws and bolts. Other than that there are no guarantees. None of the things displayed are priceless by any means. The shelves are really more the thing than what’s on them.

Fantastic deer shelf! I got a nice little shelf on FBMP recently. Small but by a really $$ maker. I guess the seller didn’t research the name. I’ll have to find it and post it. I never hung it of course. Just like most of my dozens and dozens and dozens of pieces of framed artwork.
