Featured meaning of symbols on early 19th century signet ring

I'm unsure if the symbols on the lower half of this signet ring are some foreign script or just symbols

 

Id guess its a seal ring. Arabic .

 

The ring would make an impression that looks like this (your image flipped & rotated):



The characters at the top between the 2 that look like Saturn say 1809, which is not necessarily the date of the seal.

 

Can you show the whole ring, please?

Certainly Arabic, but there's some odd symbology.

 

Intaglios with Arabic inscriptions are plentiful, but this one with a combination of Arabic & Roman letters is odd.

 

Carnelian intaglios are also plentiful. However, here there may be additional significance. Some Arabic men wear a ring with a carnelian stone because the Prophet is said to have had such a ring. See aqeeq/aqiq/akik.

 

Although it is written in the Arabic fashion, 1809 as a year has not yet occurred in the Muslim calendar, so, if a date, a western one.

I see squiggles that suggest Arabic to someone who does not read that language, but none that look like genuine letters, even allowing for some calligraphic license.



Except for the numerals, the 'Arabic' part is probably fantasy.

 

True, we have to wait until 2431.
The number could be from an Islamic numerological system, which is important in healing, protection, good fortune, etc. The star and planet symbols could be connected to the numerological symbolism.

 

I think this has as much Arabic significance as the Shriners do. More likely 'CC' wanted something pseudo-esoteric/gnostic. May have had an interest in such intaglios from antiquity.

I can't see everything written on the back. Evidently someone wore this as mourning jewellery. The date after 'ob.' is the date the person named above died.

Why 1809 on the front - that's definitely what it says - & 1819 on the back? What happened 10 years before the death?

 

If you have fingers you're enough of an expert for this. Does it fit any of your fingers? If so, which one.

Where in the world was this found?

 

Is it safe then to say it is large enough to fit a man? It would be unusual for a man to wear jewelllery in remembrance of another man, but no reason not. Again, some women have titanic fingers.

Did you buy or inherit the ring? Can we see the shoulders (the parts of the band next to the stone)? Are there any markings inside the band? Once we get hold of an item, we love to learn all about it.
