Men’s or ladies?

I bought a bag of men’s clothing and a bag of ladies clothing from an estate. I combined them to save space. I’ve tried on some of the man’s clothing and it’s fits perfectly. I tried of one of the ladies jackets because it didn’t have a size and I wanted to be able to estimate….and because I’m a Prince fan and it looks like something he would wear. I could not pull it off though lol. Anyways this one looks like a men’s jacket and vest to me but it’s much smaller than his other stuff. It was probably just from when he was young or one of their kids. Or…would a lady wear this? Sometimes you see ladies wearing men’s type clothing in movies from this era. Guessing it’s men’s but figured I’d check. Love the vest. A morning coat and waistcoat. Pre-1963 from the label.

Morning or mourning? That’s a serious question. Also curious what points to it being pre 63’? That’s such a specific year, I’m assuming there must be an equally specific answer.

Ah yeh I think I knew that but forgot that I knew that. More accurately, I’ve heard that and didn’t remember it, rather than having actually truly known it.

    Any tags inside the pocket?
Something to keep in mind: many local tailors would have used up older labels for years after the state abbreviation change.

Probably can be dated by the lapels. They're fairly wide.

    Useful for sleeping in.

The morning coat looks like it's from somebody's wedding. I think other than JFK's inauguration that's the only time one's been worn in the last 60 years.(LOL) The trousers were generally black or made to match the coat. It was the daytime version of a tuxedo.
