Featured Mercury barometers are not illegal in Britain if old enough.

I recently found out that a new British law means you need a licence to buy certain substances, it is called the Explosives Precusor and Poisons Licence act, and among other things in the poisons section is mercury.

I have a few antique barometers, so I enquired about them, and it seems that if they are made before 1957 they are OK to own and sell.

Clearly anyone with evil intent and a need for some mercury can simply buy an old barometer, but that's lawmakers for you, more loopholes than a lace doily.

It also bans the unlicenced sale of strong nitric acid, commonly used for silver testing. And chlorate weedkiller. Still, anyone with some little knowledge of chemistry can just take a step back in the production process.

Just to explain: Burt's a survivalist in the movie Tremors and he's talking about his homemade bombs. He uses canon fuse to ignite them:

Tremors. I like that movie.

 

I LOVE that move! It is campy and FUNNY!

I thought I was the only one who liked that movie because it was so bad it was good!

Oh yea, Tremors is so bad it really is good. Every time it's on TV we just have to watch it
