    Good afternoon! Happy Sunday.

My mother purchased this lovely lamp as a project, and she's considering painting it but wanted to make sure its not anything interesting/old before doing so.

Its a very pretty thing, the glass is in perfect condition with etched/cut (?) edges. The cord is astronomically long. Its roughly 8-10 inches in diameter. I assume French as that's where we got it/live. The plug seems to be older than the usual 70s/80s ones we get around here, am I correct on this or does this date to about the same time? Could it even be as old as AD? It kind of feels that way but I have zero clue about lamps! Many thanks all :D

I also believe French. Has some age to it. Could even be pre-war.

I'm not sure it was ever painted.

No it wasn't, my mother was thinking of painting it as a project. She just wants to make sure she doesn't wreck something interesting or old in the process.

It is interesting and old but do not think a sypathetic paint job would hurt this. If she plans on painting it multiple garish colors, I would say not to do it. Personally, I would apply a coat of paste wax and call it a day.

If you found it was worth a couple G's someday-suppose you could strip it .

Thanks very much both of you! It is lovely and my mom is very sympathetic so I think it will turn out well :)
