The decoration is in the style of Mexican amate paper paintings.
Banfoco is an official Mexican agency to promote popular arts. I think it was instituted in the 1970s.

I love this kind of stuff! I have quite a few pieces of vintage Mexican pottery sold to the tourist trade. Just really like the colors!!!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Just FYI, I see some indication that BANFOCO (Banco de Fomento de Cooperativas) was involved with arts and crafts groups in the 1960s. Possibly even in the 1950s? It was some kind of government agency that sponsored art cooperatives.

It appears to be Mexican lacquerware which is produced in Chiapas, Guerrero and Michoacan. Design is similar to amate so Guerrero most likely, I'd think. Nice example. It does look old-ish. Ware is fairly fragile so don't over wash, get near solvents.
